История ранних исследований бактериофагов и рождение основных концепций вирусологии

Аннотация

Вирусы бактерий – бактериофаги – были открыты спустя более 20 лет после открытия вирусов растений и животных, однако именно исследования бактериофагов в течение первых 40 лет их изучения привели к созданию современной концепции вируса и в большой мере легли в основание зарождающихся молекулярной генетики и молекулярной биологии. Отдельные аспекты истории ранних исследований бактериофагов хорошо описаны в специальных работах. В этом обзоре дается общая картина ключевых событий, приведших к созданию основных концепций вирусологии. В частности, рассмотрены противостояние идей Ф. д’Эрелля и Ж. Бордэ по вопросу о природе бактериофага, история открытия явления лизогении и установления природы, работы фаговой группы, созданной М. Дельбрюком в США, создание методологии генетического анализа бактериофагов и другие исследования, приведшие к пониманию вируса (бактериофага) как трансмиссивной генетической программы. Также рассмотрена история первых попыток практического применения бактериофагов, таких, как фаговая терапия и фаготипирование.
